About the Board of Directors

The Child and Youth Care Association of BC (CYCABC) is an organization of CYC practitioners established to represent and promote professional practice of CYC in British Columbia and the broad spectrum of service delivery to children, youth, families and communities.

The CYCABC conducts recruitment and elections to board positions at our Annual General Meeting. CYCABC Board positions are held for a 2-year term, unless otherwise stated.

Director Positions:

President (Chair), Executive Board Position
Vice-President (Vice Chair), Executive Board Position
Treasurer, Executive Board Position
Recording Secretary, Executive Board Position

Members-at-Large (x4)

Expectations:

Board members are required to attend a minimum of one meeting per month; these are scheduled in advance and take place after business hours. On alternating months, the board holds a full day, in-person meeting. Weekly email communication, e-document, and/or phone communication is expected.

Board Members are required, whenever possible to assist and attend CYCABC events and initiatives. Current Board members report an average commitment of 2-3 hours per week (Chair/ViceChair 4-5 hours per week)


PRESIDENT (CHAIR)

Duties include:

  • To conduct all business of the Provincial Association.
  • Call and chair all Provincial Executive Meetings.
  • Signing authority on financial issues.
  • Provide direction to all Provincial Executive members.
  • Develop and maintain a functional organization structure.
  • To elicit the active involvement and support of all Association members, Government, agencies and the community.
  • Direct and frequent contact with members.
  • Attend meetings in official capacity.
  • Develop contacts in government and departments affecting the CYCABC. Ensure that Provincial Executive Board members are assuming adequate responsibility for the areas for which that are responsible.

Qualifications

  • Currently practicing Child and Youth Care in BC
  • A CYCABC member in good standing as of April 1 (of the current year)
  • Knowledge of Society Act of BC
  • Task Oriented and Efficient
  • Must have desire to move Child and Youth Care Practice forward in BC

VICE-PRESIDENT (VICE-CHAIR)

 Duties include:

  • Call and chair all Provincial Executive Meetings in the absence of the President.
  • To represent the Association at functions and meetings in the Region as required.
  • To respond to requests for information or complaints within the Region.
  • To supervise committees as required by the Executive.
  • To attend Provincial Executive Board meetings.
  • Signing powers for cheques.
  • To elicit the active involvement and support of all Association members, Government, agencies and the community.
  • Direct and frequent contact with members.
  • Attend meetings in official capacity.
  • To assist in the development of contacts in government and departments affecting the CYCABC. Ensure that Provincial Executive Board members are assuming adequate responsibility for the areas for which that are responsible.

  • A CYCABC member in good standing as of April 1, 2015
  • Knowledge of Society Act of BC
  • Task Oriented and Efficient
  • Must have desire to move Child and Youth Care Practice forward in BC

RECORDING SECRETARY

Duties include:

  • Assist in the Executive functions of the board
  • Ensure that all Provincial Executive Board members are informed of meetings.
  • Record all minutes of Provincial Executive meetings and Annual General Meetings
  • Ensure that minutes of Provincial Executive Meetings are typed and distributed to all Provincial Executive Board members
  • Assist in Maintaining the Policy and Procedures Manual

Qualifications:

  • Currently practicing Child and Youth Care in BC
  • A CYCABC member in good standing as of April 1, 2015
  • Familiar with “Robert’s Rules”
  • Task Oriented and Efficient

MEMBERS-AT-LARGE

Duties include:

  • Member’s-At-Large will serve as full voting members of the Provincial Executive Board, and will perform such duties as may be required from time to time by the Provincial Executive Board.
  • Chair Standing Committees as appointed by the Provincial Executive Board.
  • Contribute to the execution of the 2014 Strategic Plan
  • Assist with Event Planning and CYCABC Initiatives
  • Member recruitment and retention
  • Fundraising

Qualifications:

  • Currently practicing Child and Youth Care in BC
  • A CYCABC member in good standing as of April 1 (of current calendar year)
  • Must have desire to move Child and Youth Care Practice forward in BC
